Antal Megyer-Meyer.jpg

Antal Megyer Meyer was a Hungarian Impressionist, modern artist and industrial painter who was born in 1883 in Budapest. He was the son of Szervác Meyer and Mária Rutska. He studied at the College of Fine Arts in Hungary and obtained a diploma in 1906.

He began his teaching career at the SzékesfÅ‘város School of Industrial Design, and later became a teacher at the College of Fine Arts in 1923. He was rector between 1937−1939 and vice-rector between 1939−1941.

In addition to his work as an art teacher, he used his versatility in almost all genres of applied graphics and applied art design − furniture and carpet design, wrought iron, goldsmithing, and decorative painting. He developed his own style using modern lines and historical style features. For several decades, he was involved in the design of mass-produced ecclesiastical art equipment items and favors, which were distributed by the Oberbauer company.

His works were regularly featured in church art exhibitions. One of his most significant works is the giant monstrance of the 34th World Eucharistic Congress.
