Anton Lindforss was a visual artist born in 1890 in the town of Tampere, the son of farmer Anton Ludvig Lind and Anna Forss Margareetta os Hiltunen. He first went to study law at the University of Helsinki, while also studying in the university's drawing room in 1909−1910. Lindforss was drawn to art and in 1910 he began his studies at the Finnish Art Society drawing school, where he spent only a few months. His art studies continued independently and with the help of fellow student Ilmari Aalto. At art school, Lindforss also became friends with the illustrator Rudolf Koivu.
In 1916 he traveled to England where he adopted a new expressive painting style, and in 1917 he joined the expressionist November Group. The group tried to emphasize the conveying of inner experience and feeling in their art, and Lindforss adopted this in his own art. He especially admired Tyko Sallinen, the leader of the group.
Lindforss's painting trips continued in the 1930s. Quiet and secluded, Lindforss was attracted by the peace of Lapland and its rugged and clear landscapes. With his Lapland pictures, Lindforss became popular with the public and critics. This brought financial success and grants. He traveled to France with his friend Rudolf Koivu in 1924, as well as England and Italy. In the early 1930s, Lindforss went on a trip to Spain and Morocco with his architect wife Elsi Borg.

In 2021 works by the artist were included in the exhibition "Among Forests and Lakes - Landscape Masterpieces from the Finnish National Gallery", shown at the National Nordic Museum.
