Lajos Deák Ébner was a visual artist born in 1850 in the city of Pest. He studied in Munich and Paris, where he joined his fellow painters László Paál and Mihály Munkácsy and came under the influence of the Barbizon school. After 1874, he spent his summers at the Szolnok art colony and winters in Paris. He was an outstanding representative of the Szolnok art school, his peasants pictures from this period are portrayed with a freshness and realism.

Many of his paintings are realistic portrayals of life around Szolnok. From 1887 to 1922, he was head of the Budapesti NÅ‘i FestÅ‘iskola (Budapest School of Painting for Women). In 1890 he and Károly Lotz painted frescoes at Tihany Abbey, and from 1895 to 1899  he executed additional frescoes at the Kunsthalle Budapest.

The artist is represented in the Ernest Zmeták Art Gallery in Nové Zámky, Slovakia. The Hungarian National Gallery owns 18 works by the artist.
