     Pétur Friðrik Sigurðsson was born in 1928 in Sunnuhvolur in Reykjavík. He graduated from the Icelandic School of Fine Arts and Crafts in 1945 and from the Royal University of the Arts in Copenhagen in 1949.
     Sigurðsson spent one winter in Paris after graduating to get acquainted with new innovations that were happening in art at that time. He held his first solo exhibition when he was only 17 years old, and in total he held 12 large solo exhibitions near his home and a number of smaller exhibitions around the country. He participated in group exhibitions both in Iceland and abroad. The artist also held solo exhibitions in New York, Luxembourg and Cologne.

     In 1961 he was a founding member of the Visual Arts Association in Reykjavik that included Guðmundur from Miðdal, Gunnlaugur Blöndal, Finnur Jónsson, and Eggert Guðmundsscn.
     Sigurðsson was a well-known sprinter in his younger years and was selected to the Icelandic Olympic team for the Helsinki Games in 1952 where he competed in the men's 100 metres.
    He is represented with works in Reykjavík Art Museum.
